Perhaps one of the most famous Russian-language plays in the world. In the pages of this work Gogol ridiculed all public vices, characteristic not only of that time, but also, alas, modernity: laziness, graculation, treasury, corruption, lawlessness, disrespect of human dignity. The main character - Khlestakov - is not a hero at all. And not even classic for such comedies "cheat." He's just a sliver of the whirlpool of circumstances. And the main driving force is fear.
