The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge is the first work by Carlos Castaneda, published in 1968. He describes the author's initial study period (from 1960 to 1965) with Juan Matus, a shaman, an Egg Indian. The book was written as a master's thesis on anthropology. The veracity of the facts described in this and all subsequent castaneda books has been discussed since their publication.
